Design Review Board endorses signage for pediatric office and Chase Bank

WAYLAND -- December 4, 2024, Wayland's Design Review Advisory Board signs off on plans for a pediatric office and a new Chase Bank branch. Meeting Dec. 4, the three-member board voted 2-0, with the chair recused, to recommend approval of two signs at 13 Pelham Island Road for Whalen Pediatrics, accepting a front-yard setback shortfall from the bylaw's 15-foot requirement because the small lot and existing building leave no alternative. The board then unanimously backed three non-illuminated wall signs totaling 39.1 square feet, just under the 40-square-foot cap, for Chase Bank at 44 Main Street, presented by Giovanni Cesar of Stonefield Engineering and Kenneth Spence of TPG Architecture. Member Tatiana pressed the applicants to add landscaping and seating to the parking lot, calling it "the only place to hang out" for teens drawn to the adjacent Starbucks and a forthcoming Jersey Mike's.
