Design Review board backs Whalen Pediatrics and Chase Bank signs

WAYLAND — December 4, 2024 — Wayland's Design Review Advisory Board greenlights signage for Whalen Pediatrics and a new Chase Bank branch. Meeting Dec. 4, the board voted 2-0 to recommend the Whalen Pediatrics signs at 13 Pelham Island Road after Chair William Sterling recused himself, citing "a long relationship with the applicant." Members Robin Borgestedt and Tatiana Person found the planter sign and main-entrance sign well under the town's 40-square-foot cap, and accepted a front-yard setback shortfall as unavoidable on the small lot. The board then voted 3-0 on Chase Bank's 44 Main Street plan, presented by Giovanni Cesar of Stonefield Engineering and Kenneth Spence of TPG Architecture, with three non-illuminated signs totaling 39.1 square feet and dark-sky-compliant fixtures meeting Chase's 50-foot security lighting radius. Person urged the applicant to add benches and landscaping for teenagers gathering near Starbucks and an incoming Jersey Mike's.
