Design board rejects chain link at pump station
Design Review Advisory Board · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Wayland's Design Review Advisory Board pushed back on chain link fencing at the planned Castle Road pump station. Public Works Director Tom Holder and Kleinfelder project manager Kirsten Ryan presented revisions made after a Sept. 9 Planning Board hearing, including cutting the fenced footprint by roughly half, dropping a septic system and leach field via a plumbing code waiver, and reorienting the emergency generator. Members said eight-foot chain link is "a little industrial looking" and asked for wrought iron or aluminum on the Castle Road and Old Connecticut Path frontages, with staggered rather than linear plantings so the site reads as residential.
One member noted the property "will now be basically the entrance to that neighborhood." The generator measures 70 decibels at the unit and 60 at the property line. No vote was taken; comments will be recorded in the minutes.
