Wayland wastewater board backs $290,000 FY26 capital request
WAYLAND -- November 19, 2024, Wayland wastewater commission endorses $290,000 capital request and adds a new member. The Wastewater Management District Commission, meeting remotely Nov. 19, voted to forward a fiscal 2026 capital package including $65,000 for a hybrid utility vehicle, $150,000 to repaint peeling membrane tanks, and $75,000 to begin design work tied to a possible Route 20 sewer rehabilitation. Chair Michael Gitten and member Darrin Bock approved the motion conditionally, pending a debt-service analysis before the Dec. 6 town submittal deadline; new member Edward Chow, also of the Board of Public Works, attended his first meeting. Public Works Director Thomas Holder said the tank coatings, installed roughly 15 years ago, are "peeling off in sheets" and that replacing the concrete tanks would cost millions. Plant flows remain around 32,000 gallons per day, with about 12,000 gpd of capacity available, and a proposed Dunkin' Donuts at 289 Boston Post Road would absorb roughly 1,400 gpd of that.
