Wayland subcommittee sets June 5 rollout for long-range school facilities plan

WAYLAND — May 13, 2024 — Wayland school finance subcommittee maps 18-month runway to a March 2026 MSBA filing. The Finance Subcommittee met May 13 with Business Administrator Susan and committee member David to revive a long-stalled facilities planning effort backed by roughly $288,000 in appropriated funds, after two prior Statements of Interest to the Massachusetts School Building Authority were declined. Outgoing Chair Jeannie said the group will bring the full School Committee a short-term goal of producing an updated facilities plan within 12 to 18 months and a long-term goal of modernizing buildings — four of which date to the 1950s. Members cited Lexington's 18-month master plan as a model and warned that "crunching and consolidating it won't get us the desired result." A context-setting presentation, draft advisory-committee structure and proposed charge are slated for the June 5 School Committee meeting. Separately, Jeannie flagged a three-year check-in next summer on the school bus parking special permit, which runs through Aug. 31, 2027.
