Wayland Select Board reelects Carlson chair, elevates Fay to vice chair
WAYLAND -- September 14, 2020, Wayland Select Board reelects Carlson chair and taps Fay as vice chair in 5-0 reorganization vote. The board reorganized at its first meeting after the delayed 2020 annual town meeting, with newly sworn-in member Dave Watkins joining Cherry Carlson, Thomas Fay, Lee Anderson and Mary Antes. Fay had initially nominated Anderson, arguing municipalities benefit when the chairmanship rotates every two years, but the board settled on Carlson continuing through the next regular town meeting; Anderson will handle regular-session minutes. Town Administrator Louise Miller reported local school roof bids came in roughly $1 million under budget, the police chief will retire Nov. 30, and the town is simultaneously hiring an assistant town administrator, a director of assessing and two firefighters. Wayland also received a $150,827 Green Communities grant. Carlson said she wanted "many voices being heard and not one" through the coming year's liaison assignments.
