Wayland school facilities plan heads to full committee June 5
WAYLAND — May 13, 2024 — Wayland school facilities planning heads back to the full School Committee on June 5. The School Committee's finance subcommittee, meeting with Superintendent David and business administrator Susan, agreed to bring a draft district goal, a proposed advisory committee structure and a tentative timeline aimed at a March 2026 Massachusetts School Building Authority statement of interest — abandoning an earlier March 2025 target as unrealistic. The town has $288,000 appropriated for the work, which stalled after an earlier statement of interest was declined. Members cited Lexington's 18-month process as a model, warning that "crunching and consolidating it won't get us the desired result." Four Wayland schools date to the post-war period. The subcommittee also flagged a three-year check-in next summer on the Children's Way bus parking special permit, which now runs through Aug. 31, 2027, and approved minutes from its April 24 and May 3 meetings before adjourning at 12:35 p.m.
