Wayland School Committee picks Fleishman as acting superintendent
WAYLAND — April 14, 2023 — Wayland picks former Newton superintendent David Fleishman for one-year acting role. The School Committee voted unanimously, 5-0, on April 14 to enter contract negotiations with Fleishman as acting superintendent beginning July 1, choosing him from a field of four finalists after a fifth, John Massero, withdrew. Members Jess, Erin, Ellen, Jeannie and Chair Chris all named Fleishman on their short list, citing his decade-plus running Newton's schools and his framing of the job as a defined one-year bridge. "I think the experience is really, really important right now," Jess said. Tim Luff, Bella Wong and Weston Superintendent Midge Connolly were the other finalists. Resident Jeff Sclar used public comment to demand outgoing Superintendent Dr. Omar Easey be given a copy of a November investigation report, calling the situation "a failure to communicate." Jeannie and Ellen were delegated to handle contract negotiations.
