Wayland Planning Board approves final reports on three town meeting zoning articles

WAYLAND — May 8, 2024 — Wayland Planning Board finalizes town meeting reports on self-storage, solar cluster and MBTA overlay. The board voted 4-0 by roll call to accept its supplemental report opposing Article 27, a citizen petition creating a retail self-storage sub-district in the Business B district, and Article 28, allowing solar compact conservation clusters. A separate 4-0 vote approved a "locations vetted" handout for the MBTA Communities multifamily housing overlay. Chair Anette S. Lewis rewrote language warning that without adequate parking requirements, an abandoned building could sit unused — "even if the owner just walked away, that's still failure," she said. The report also flags wetlands and floodplain concerns tied to Snake Brook and the risk of spot zoning. Lewis said 57 municipalities are now MBTA-compliant statewide; member Jen Steele will present Article 27 and Larry Kiernan will handle Article 28.
