Wayland HRDEIC reelects chair and names Heather vice chair

WAYLAND — June 18, 2024 — Wayland's HRDEIC reelects chair, names new vice chair and debriefs its multicultural festival. The Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee unanimously returned Karen Lumenfeld as chair on June 18 and elected new treasurer Heather as vice chair, ending a yearlong rotating arrangement that members said overloaded the chair. Jessica was reelected clerk. Member Onji reported that the Arts Wayland board has voted to endorse merging the multicultural festival with the organization's annual expo, calling it "more sustainable" after two years of heavy volunteer lifts. The committee approved three batches of festival invoices, capping student member and volunteer honoraria at $49.99 to stay under the $50 state ethics gift limit, with roughly $1,400 left in the festival budget. Members also flagged a chair-collapse incident during the festival tied to a 220-pound weight limit printed only on the underside of town-owned chairs.
