Wayland HRDEIC finalizes Saturday peace event, approves minutes

WAYLAND -- September 17, 2024, Wayland's diversity committee finalizes Saturday peace event and welcomes its fourth student member. The Human Rights, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, chaired by Karen Blumenfeld, locked in logistics Tuesday for a 4 p.m. International Day of Peace gathering on the town green featuring three short speakers, peace-wreath and Cheerio-bracelet crafts, and origami cranes. Member Asma Khan, who is leading the event, said speeches will run "three or four minutes" each; Malcolm Astley will address peace in relationships and home. The committee also began consolidating a 21-item draft goals list from members Yawu and Marianne, "we can't do 21," Vice Chair Heather said, and approved August 20 and September 4 minutes, with member Meilin Ellerman correcting a passage to clarify a new coercive-control amendment to Chapter 209A.
