Wayland HRDEI committee backs housing forum, releases statement on federal orders

WAYLAND — February 18, 2025 — Wayland's human rights committee backed a housing forum and approved a public statement on federal executive orders. Wayland Housing Authority Executive Director Brian Boggia told the Feb. 18 meeting that wait lists for local public housing run five to seven years and pitched an eight-to-12-unit supportive living facility at 212 Cochituate Road for cognitively disabled young adults, contingent on a spring town meeting warrant article. Section 8 Administrator Catherine Provost said Wayland just won a state tax-credit allocation for the 60-unit St. Anne's development, with about 12 units at 30 percent area median income, calling deeper income tiering something the town "desperately" needs. The committee, chaired by Karen Blumenfeld, then unanimously adopted a "United We Stand" statement, added a Know Your Rights page to its website, and voted with two abstentions to co-sponsor a March 24 library talk by Professor Melissa Providence on a Ravensbrück hostage's memoir.
