Wayland ELVIS Committee locks in April 7 town meeting logistics

WAYLAND — March 12, 2025 — Wayland's ELVIS Committee locked in April 7 town meeting logistics and broadened its lobbying push for remote voting. Chair Dave Bernstein said check-in opens at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:45 p.m. start, with April 8 reserved as a second session; Town Moderator Miranda will debut a consent calendar covering three groups of articles in hopes of finishing in one night. Town Clerk Trudy will send the voter extract to vendor contact Mark on Monday, March 24, and Facilities Director Michael Faia will order handsets based on an attendance survey led by member Don and Kelsey. Bernstein reported Wayland's home rule petition is now HD 246, sponsored by Rep. Carmine Gentile with Rep. David Linsky and Sen. James Eldridge; four statewide bills are also pending. The League of Women Voters is now on board, but the Disability Law Center has withheld endorsement because the bill does not make remote participation mandatory. North Andover moderator Mark DeSalvo told Bernstein a statewide moderators' vote "would fail." Before business April 7, high schoolers will reenact a 1775 Wayland town meeting for the town's 250th anniversary.
