Wayland EDC forwards 193 Commonwealth Road self-storage zoning to Select Board

WAYLAND — October 12, 2024 — Wayland EDC forwards self-storage zoning and $600,000 Route 20 design article to Select Board. The Economic Development Committee voted 3-1, with member Brad Young opposed and Dan Crossman abstaining, to formally submit draft zoning for a self-storage building at 193 Commonwealth Road that would create a parcel-specific B-1 sub-district and reserve 3 percent of the building for Arts Wayland community space. Chair Rebecca Stanizzi called the filing "housekeeping" ahead of Tuesday's 4:30 p.m. warrant deadline, noting proponents are also preparing a citizens petition. About an hour of public comment ran almost entirely against the project; Quentin Allen of 4 Wendy Hill warned "there's no guarantee that anything that the developer says he's going to do will be done" once the zoning passes. The committee separately voted unanimously to forward a Route 20 curb-cut and sidewalk design article, revised from $825,000 to roughly $600,000 by DPW Director Tom Holder.
