Wayland DPW board backs four-way stop, traffic calming on Sherman's Bridge Road

WAYLAND — August 15, 2023 — Wayland DPW board endorses four-way stop and crosswalks on Sherman's Bridge Road. The Board of Public Works voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend that the Select Board approve a four-way stop at Oxbow and Alpine roads after resident Doug Stotts presented police radar data showing 93 percent of more than 12,000 vehicles exceeded the 25 mph limit, with an 85th-percentile speed of 42 mph and "five out of seven days had someone hitting 60 on the road." Police Chief Edward Burman said his officers have run 17 directed patrols and 23 motor vehicle stops on the road since July 1. DPW Director Tom Holder said new ADA crosswalks, advance "stop ahead" signs and a double-yellow centerline will accompany the stop signs once the Select Board signs off Sept. 11. Separately, Finance Director Brian Keveny said the water enterprise fund's retained earnings stand at $924,000, with members targeting roughly 20 percent of the operating budget as a long-term reserve.
