Wayland DPW board approves revised water abatement procedure

WAYLAND — November 21, 2023 — Wayland Public Works approves abatement policy and orders commercial water shutoff procedure. The Board of Public Works on Nov. 21 unanimously approved a water bill abatement procedure drafted by member George Uveges that caps irrigation abatements at 20 percent and limits relief to one per account holder, and directed member Sherry Greenbaum to draft a policy authorizing service termination for commercial accounts in arrears — prompted by roughly $19,000 owed by the town pool. DPW Director Tom Holder said the department has dropped plans for a May 2024 town meeting article on the $20 million MWRA permanent connection, opting to keep refining the water financial model with consultant Matt Abrahams before a February return. Sustainability Coordinator Abigail Charest pegged a Level 2 ChargePoint installation at $35,900, or about $13,100 with incentives — "roughly a 60 percent subsidy."
