Wayland Conservation Commission approves Plain Road demolition, advances Council on Aging redesign

WAYLAND — February 15, 2023 — Wayland Conservation Commission clears Plain Road demolition and advances a slimmer Council on Aging plan. The commission unanimously issued an order of conditions for demolition of a garage, two sheds and a pool at 124 Plain Road, near Hayward Brook, after MassDEP finally issued a file number. David Kelly of Meridian Associates presented a revised Council on Aging concept that drops the riverwalk, restores a one-third-acre town green, and cuts impervious cover by more than 5,000 square feet; member Luke Legere called it "a major step in the right direction." The commission also voted to engage a stormwater peer reviewer — likely Horsley Witten Group — for a 10,000-square-foot Herb Chambers dealership addition at 533 Boston Post Road. Administrator Linda Hansen reported that the Snake Brook Dam project, now estimated at $2.1 million to $2.2 million, was passed over for federal BRIC funding but received $650,000 in town ARPA money, leaving roughly $550,000 unfunded.
