Wayland committee clears way for Heard Pond water chestnut treatment

WAYLAND — June 18, 2025 — Wayland advances Heard Pond herbicide treatment after Conservation Commission approval. The Surface Water Quality Committee on Wednesday confirmed that the notice of intent for a ClearCast application in the pond's south cove has cleared the Conservation Commission under administrator Linda Hansen, and that a Solitude Lake Management treatment contract has arrived at roughly $9,300 — well below projections — alongside a separate $9,900 hand-pulling contract for the rest of the pond. Chair Thomas Klem said he will lead abutter notifications while member Thomas J. Largy is on vacation. Largy, who inspected the cove by bass boat, warned that the immature plants number in the "thousands upon thousands" and could outpace treatment if delayed past early July. The committee also signed a roughly $5,000 contract for pre- and post-harvest plant surveys on Dudley Pond and approved May minutes 3-0.
