Wayland committee backs two-residence concept for 212 Cochituate Road site

WAYLAND — November 13, 2025 — Wayland committee settles on two-residence concept for 212 Cochituate Road. The 212 Cochituate Road Advisory Committee on Thursday agreed to recommend that the four-acre town parcel host two structures serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with at least one operated as a DDS-supported group home. Member Bill Whitney will draft the report to the Select Board and proposed naming a tentatively designated developer with 12 to 18 months to complete design and permitting. Member Gene pitched a 20-unit integrated building combining eight DDS units, four non-DDS disability units and eight affordable and market-rate units, but Chair Tom Fay and member Bill Adams said the scale exceeded the "fairly low impact" development promised to voters. Member John Thomas urged inviting Wayland families with DDS person-centered funding — ranging "from $10,000 to hundreds of thousands of dollars" — to participate. The committee cancelled its Nov. 19 meeting and voted 7-0 to adjourn.
