Wayland cable committee approves Verizon license with three-year floor
WAYLAND — March 2, 2023 — Wayland Cable Advisory Committee approves Verizon renewal with a guaranteed 36-month floor. Meeting remotely March 2, members David Watkins, Carl Rosenblatt and Jake Monkern voted 3-0 to choose "Option B" — Verizon may terminate only after 31 months and only with 180 days' advance notice — over an alternative allowing termination at 24 months with 365 days' notice. The license also carries a 5 percent gross annual revenue payment and $25,000 per year in capital support for five years. "I would rather go with the longer minimum commitment than the notification period," Watkins said. Watkins called the prospect of Verizon pulling out a "low probability in the next five years" and "a PR disaster" if it happened. The committee also delegated the annual report to Watkins, with Monkern reviewing, and approved minutes from Feb. 27 and the current meeting, each 3-0. Adjourned 7:04 p.m.
