Wayland assessors approve $338,766 motor vehicle excise commitment

WAYLAND — April 8, 2024 — Wayland assessors unanimously approve $338,766 motor vehicle excise commitment. Meeting remotely April 8, Chair Zachariah Ventress, Vice-Chair Philip Parks and member Steven Klitgord signed a second 2024 motor vehicle and trailer excise warrant covering 643 bills, a valuation of $14,069,378.93 and a tax of $338,766.63, with an April 16 issue date. The board also approved an eighth 2023 commitment of a single bill totaling $5 in tax, and ratified March 25 minutes. Parks floated producing a resident-facing explainer on how tax rates are set, saying assessors are "ground zero" for taxpayer questions even though they do not set spending. The director also flagged that the assessor's office will close Fridays from the last week of June through mid-August under the union schedule. The board adjourned at 6:19 p.m. into executive session and set May 13 as its next meeting.
