Terms of Service

Effective June 23, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of WaylandNews at wayland.townbrief.com (the "Service"), published by TownBrief ("we," "us," or "our"). By accessing the Service or subscribing, you agree to these Terms.

The Service

WaylandNews provides local government, civic, and community news for Wayland, Massachusetts, and surrounding communities, offered through free and paid subscription tiers.

Accounts and subscriptions

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for activity under your account.
  • Paid subscriptions are billed in advance through our payment processor, Stripe, on a recurring basis (monthly or annually) until cancelled.
  • You can cancel at any time; cancellation stops future renewals. Except where required by law, payments already made are non-refundable, and access continues through the end of the paid period.
  • Prices and tier features may change; we will give notice of material changes as required.

Content license & permitted use

All content on WaylandNews — including articles, headlines, briefs, photographs, graphics, layouts, and email newsletters (the "Content") — is © TownBrief and is protected by United States and international copyright law. All rights are reserved.

Limited license. Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to access, view, and read the Content for your own personal, non-commercial use, and to share links to our pages and quote brief excerpts with clear attribution to WaylandNews.

Restrictions. Except as expressly permitted above, you may not, without our prior written permission:

  • copy, reproduce, republish, repost, redistribute, syndicate, broadcast, or publicly display the Content, in whole or in part;
  • scrape, crawl, harvest, mirror, cache (beyond ordinary browser caching), or systematically download the Content;
  • sell, license, rent, or otherwise commercialize the Content;
  • use the Content to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or develop any artificial-intelligence or machine-learning model or dataset;
  • create derivative works from the Content; or
  • remove, obscure, or alter any copyright notice, byline, attribution, watermark, or other proprietary marking, or circumvent any access control or paywall.

Attribution & notices. Where limited quotation is permitted, any source, attribution, or copyright notice we attach to copied Content — including notices automatically appended when text is copied from the Service — must be preserved and may not be removed or altered.

Conditions & termination. This license is conditioned on your full compliance with these Terms and may be revoked at any time. Any use beyond the limited license granted above is an infringement of our copyright and a breach of these Terms.

To request permission for any other use, contact dave@townbrief.com.

Content tracing & forensic watermarking

To deter and detect unauthorized copying, Content published on the Service and distributed in our email newsletters carries forensic watermarks — unique textual and typographic fingerprints embedded in individual copies — that allow us to trace republished, leaked, or scraped Content back to its source. Circumventing, removing, or tampering with these protections, or with the access controls or paywall on the Service, is prohibited. Unauthorized use of the Content may result in suspension or termination of your account and access, and in legal action to enforce our rights, including claims for copyright infringement and recovery of damages and costs to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service — including by attempting to disrupt it, access it without authorization, or use it for unlawful purposes.

Disclaimers

The Service and its content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. While we work to be accurate and timely, we do not guarantee that all content is error-free or complete.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, TownBrief will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
