Select Board fills three committee seats, awards $2.9M school bus contract

WAYLAND — August 12, 2024 — Wayland Select Board fills three committee seats and awards a $2.9M bus contract. The board voted 5-0 to appoint Nora Rothschild to the WayCAM Board of Directors, Lenning Lee to the Youth Advisory Committee, and Neil Gordon to the Energy and Climate Committee, choosing Gordon over second candidate Glenn Snyder for a single energy seat. Members also unanimously authorized Town Manager Michael McCall to sign a three-year contract with First Student Inc. estimated at $2.9 million in the first year; Chair Bill Whitney flagged that only one company bid. The board coalesced around an April 7, 2025 Annual Town Meeting after Town Moderator Miranda cited May travel plans, accepting a compressed schedule that would close the warrant in late February. McCall said he will move to demolish the abandoned structure at 212 Cochituate Road, calling it "an attractive nuisance," after recent state legislation cleared the way.
