PMBC approves final change orders as Council on Aging center nears opening

WAYLAND — June 3, 2025 — Wayland's new Council on Aging community center clears final hurdles ahead of Thursday's grand opening. The Permanent Municipal Building Committee on Tuesday unanimously approved Change Order No. 9 for $37,650.95 in finalized general conditions — about $17,000 below the $54,886 tentatively approved in March — and Change Order No. 11, a net credit of $1,670.97 that includes an $1,800 credit for a flagpole the COA will install separately and a $5,000 credit for unbuilt solar canopy footings. The project's owner's project manager said roughly $66,553 remains in contingency after an estimated $128,567 in additional Licensed Site Professional monitoring fees and town-led closeout items. Members cautioned that "time doesn't come for free" after the substantial completion date slid from late 2024 to May 9. Separately, the library's elevator modernization, budgeted near $410,000, is on track for a first- or second-week-of-August outage lasting up to 12 weeks.
