Conservation Commission orders peer review of Dudley Pond teardown plan

WAYLAND — May 1, 2024 — Wayland Conservation Commission orders peer review of Dudley Pond teardown-and-rebuild plan. Members voted unanimously to hire DGT Associates to review the HydroCAD stormwater analysis for Ralph and Elizabeth Palmieri's proposal to demolish a 1950s three-bedroom home at 23 Bayfield Road and build a larger net-zero house with an attached in-law structure on the 2.7-acre lot. Member Barbara Howell pressed the engineer on roughly 4,200 square feet of impervious surface inside the 100-foot buffer, a five- to six-foot foundation cut, and 33 to 34 trees slated for removal. Conservation Administrator Linda Hansen said lawn running to the pond's edge "is not something that we would advocate," citing nuisance vegetation and the town's downstream drinking-water well. The hearing was continued to May 22. The commission also ratified an enforcement order against 14 Squirrel Hill Road after owners pumped floodwater through 500 feet of fire hose onto priority-habitat conservation land over Patriots' Day weekend.
